Straddle monorail provides a new way for small and medium-sized cities to develop urban rail transit. Through the investigation of application of straddle monorail lines in the world, it is concluded that straddle monorail has not been widely used in the world at present. According to the functional types and geographical environment characteristics of the line, the straddle monorail in operation can be divided into four types: sightseeing, connection, densification and backbone; this paper studies the construction and operation characteristics of straddle monorail with different functional types from the aspects of investment efficiency and operation mode, providing experience for the development of straddle monorail: deepen the research on the adaptability of straddle monorail system and passage passenger flow. Promote the integration of straddle monorail line and urban comprehensive transportation network. Combined with function types and passenger flow characteristics, the transportation organization mode is applied. It is worth noting that the straddle monorail will have high marginal cost under the background of technology not highly standardized in China.
