[Abstract]
The TODs, the kind of highly-intensified development area, have relatively complex spatial configurations, rich functions, and humanized spatial service radii. In this way, they will theoretically establish a new route of generating the future urban spatial forms. This article reviews the relevant concepts of the TODs and related typical diagrams, and attempts to analyze the spatial patterns and meanings of the TODs from the perspective of space syntax. Three spatial morphological questions are therefore proposed to distinguish TOD as a simple traffic node or an active place center, as a hyperlink tunnel across space or a fine-grained transformation of multi-layer folded spaces, and as an experiential collection of random individual attraction points or a collective representation of a fascinating complex spatial structure. These more or less illustrate certain scenes of real TODs. The space syntax provides a quantitative tool for thinking, verifying and describing these complex and provocative construction processes of the TODs from the perspectives of physical space composition, traffic travel pattern, social function combination, and human behavior perception, to pursue the spatial value overflow generated by the TODs, and to optimize the spatial experience within the TODs themselves. This article argues that space syntax will provide a good tool for making the spatial dynamics of the TODs.
